"An Especially Noble Calling" by Sister Joy D. Jones

Sister Joy D. Jones
Lesson by Karen Peisley

As I listened to Sister Jones’ talk during Conference, I was reminded of the Relief Society Declaration. It seemed to me she was referring to the Declaration all through her talk. Words were different but the meaning was the same. I printed a copy of her talk and a copy of the Relief Society Declaration. As I read through her talk, I hi-lighted both copies as they related to each other.

An example I thought of was, Sister Jones said, “It is clear that throughout history women have held a distinctive place in our Heavenly Fathers plan.” In the Declaration it is stated, “. . . understand our divine destiny. . .” President Nelson asked the women of the Church to pray to Heavenly Father to know and understand our personal worth.

“We are beloved spirit daughters of God” and we each have many talents and strengths to further the work of the Lord here on the Earth.

“Let us boldly declare our devotion to our Heavenly Father and our Savior, ‘with unshaken faith in him, relying wholly upon the merits of him who is mighty to save.’ Let us joyfully continue this journey toward our highest spiritual potential and help those around us to do the same through love, service, leadership, and compassion.”

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

  1. One of my favorite comments in Sis. Jones’ talk was, “Women wear many hats, but it is impossible, and unnecessary, to wear them all at once. The Spirit helps us determine which work to focus on today.“

I earnestly pray that I can Be worthy of His help in my life. “ The Lord’s loving influence through the Holy Ghost helps us know His priority for our progression.“ I truly believe that by quietly listening to and acting upon personal revelation, it will lead to my own personal progression.

Thank you for your sharing your thoughts with us Karen. ❤️

  2. Karen, I loved your connection regarding Sister Jones’ talk and the RS Declaration. I reread and studied it with that insight in mind, which made the talk and Declaration more meaningful to me. In the talk, the quote “the Lord loves effort and effort brings rewards,” from President Nelson gave me greater understanding when I saw the “effort” words used in the declaration. The words: Increase; Seek; Dedicate; Find; Delight; Love; Stand; Sustain; Rejoice; Understand and Strive…they are words that require something of me. Looking back in my life I have seen and felt the rewards of effort, and now that I see such positive “effort” words in the Declaration, I am want to live my life reflecting those words.

  3. I also loved the correlation between the Relief Society Declaration and Sister Jones' talk. The Declaration always lifts me up and clarifies to me in many ways what my calling here on earth is. As I was re-reading the talk this time I was struck by the words, "understand our divine destiny". During this time of quarantine and social distancing and the dreaded online/home schooling I have felt overwhelmed. I have had the absolute assurance that I was NOT meant to be a teacher, that part is for sure!! I give kudos to those of you that are teachers--you do a terrific job! You are heroes! Lately, as it's been necessary to be a teacher, entertainer, barber and so many other things that I'm not used to being I have pleaded with Heavenly Father to help me. I have come to realize, with His help, that I am able to perform the things that I need and my family needs. I am grateful for the inspiration that the Relief Society Declaration gives us and for the revelation from Sister Jones, both uplifting and sacred. I pray that as we all strive daily to become better, we will become closer to the Lord and feel His love for us.
